Basically cache and mumps is commonly used for health care applications. I'm trying to find the statistics but basically the mumps and cache applications tend to have the highest up times and lowest server load by far(Epic is the most highly rated EMR system in the US). In fact 2 server boxes suffice for what 7+ boxes would be required in other db/programming languages.

It's hard for me to believe a faster modern alternative has been created. Backwards compatibility makes sense, but it's hard to believe a company so big hasn't invested in modern technologies when clients continue to pay for these technologies.

Open source examples of incredibly light weight db/programming langs would be great. Scalability is the number one concern, but obviously something a little less terse to mumps would be great.
