Post links to your best computer or programming wallpapers!

to turn it into a community wiki, edit the question, and tick the "community wiki" box underneath the question edit box. - Paul Dixon
There is a checkbox bellow your question box. you have to check it :P - Umair Ahmed
Thanks, now it's a community wiki. - Nathan Campos
Community wiki isn't carte blanche for dubious (at best) questions. - paxdiablo
Leave this open please. - ojblass
Don't close the question, please!!!!!!!!!!! - Nathan Campos
Yeah, this is no worse than other poll-type questions. We'll re-open it if it closes. - MusiGenesis
Please, let's reopen it. - Nathan Campos
(5) You're within your rights to reopen as those who closed were within their rights. But with the catch-all superuser site, I was rather hoping these non-programming questions would be relegated there. This has about as much to do with programming as the color of your underwear whilst you're coding. - paxdiablo
"Catch-all superuser site"? - MusiGenesis
superuser.com/beta-access : "At any rate, if you wanted a community where (almost) anything goes, you’re about to get exactly what you asked for in the form of superuser.com. If your question has to do with computers, it will be allowed there". - paxdiablo
I understand that the color of your underwear has no bearing on coding, but surely the boxers/briefs issues (granny/thong for the ladies) has some relevance? - MusiGenesis
Maybe when it's out of beta it will be a good place for this kind of thing. - MusiGenesis
It says private beta but, if you drop in on blog.stackoverflow.com/2009/07/… , you'll see it's pretty public. - paxdiablo
There's no way on Earth I could ever bring myself to type "ewok", so it will remain private to me. :) - MusiGenesis
BTW, a similar question was asked 2 days ago on superuser, superuser.com/questions/1653/… - Nick Dandoulakis
This is not programming related. And IMO it is not an ideal use of SU either. - Marc Gravell

I like having something non-computer related on my desktop. Usually some nature photograph that I made recently. It's nice to be reminded about the world outside sometimes.

Current wallpaper (from a recent trip to Germany): alt text

That's good, very nice! - Nathan Campos
Like the idea about getting reminded :) - Umair Ahmed
Nice idea, and very nice picture. Was this made using some HDR techniques? - M4N
@Martin: it's a double exposure; one sharp, and one blurry with long exposure time and some camera movement. - Fredrik Mörk

One of the most useful wallpapers is to have system information as shown here:

This is especially useful if you use multiple machines in various configurations of virtual desktops. Search for bginfo [1] on the web for information.

That is a good tool! Thanks. - Nathan Campos

My favorite Windows wallpaper is actually a practical joke: when your coworker leaves his computer unguarded, hit PrintScreen to copy his entire desktop, then paste it into Paint and save it somewhere. Move all of his desktop icons to a folder somewhere (or just delete them if you don't like him very much), move the taskbar off the screen, and then make the bitmap you just saved into his wallpaper.

When he comes back, his desktop will look just the same as it did before, but he won't be able to click on anything. Great fun!

(5) yepp, that's a classic, especially when you create a folder named "porn" before you printscreen ;) - clamp
(11) My coworkers usually have that folder already. I think they'd be more embarrassed by a "To-Do" folder. - MusiGenesis

I like the wallpapers, that should not effect our eyes!

I like to use blue, green and black&white wallpapers like:

  • A blue color world map.
  • A green cricket ground of test cricket, where players are in white dress.
  • A Black wallpaper with a white design(anything).

Personally I like high resolution space related images; either real images from the Hubble Telescope (or similar) or artist impressions of star explosions, galaxies etc.

I have enough trouble getting distracted as it is, so usually I pick something plain or some abstract art.
